Whatever life brings
Whatever the struggle
I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion for ever.
From Psalm 73
MP 660: The Lord’s my shepherd
1 The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want;
He makes me down to lie in
pastures green:
He leadeth me the quiet waters by.
2 My soul He doth restore again,
and me to walk doth make
with the paths of righteousness,
e’en for His own name’s sake.
3 Yea, though I walk through death’s dark vale,
yet I will fear none ill;
for Thou are with me, and Thy rod
and staff me comfort still.
4 My table Thou hast furnished
in presence of my foes;
my head Thou dost with oil anoint,
and my cup overflows.
5 Goodness and mercy all my life
shall surely follow me;
and in God’s house for evermore
my dwelling-place shall be.
Reading Luke 15 : 1 – 10
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering round to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered,
‘This man welcomes sinners, and eats with them.’
Then Jesus told them this parable:
‘Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?
And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home.
Then he calls his friends and neighbours together and says,
“Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.”
I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who do not need to repent.
‘Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?
And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbours together and says, “Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.”
In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.’
MP 133: Father I place into your hands
1 Father, I place into Your hands
the things that I can’t do.
Father, I place into Your hands
the times that I’ve been through.
Father, I place into Your hands
the way that I should go,
for I know I always can trust You.
2 Father, I place into Your hands
my friends and family.
Father, I place into Your hands
the things that trouble me.
Father, I place into Your hands
the person I should be,
for I know I always can trust You.
3. Father, we love to seek Your face,
we love to hear Your voice.
Father, we love to sing Your praise,
and in Your name rejoice.
Father, we love to walk with You
and in Your presence rest,
for we know we always can trust You.
4 Father, I want to be with You
and do the things You do.
Father, I want to speak the words
that You are speaking too.
Father, I want to love the ones
that You will draw to You,
for I know that I am one with You.
CH4 424: Blest be the everlasting God
1 Blest be the everlasting God,
the Father of our Lord!
Be his abounding mercy praised,
his majesty adored!
2 When from the dead he raised his Son,
and called him to the sky,
he gave our souls a lively hope
that they should never die.
3 To an inheritance divine
he taught our hearts to rise;
’tis uncorrupted, undefiled,
unfading in the skies.
4 Saints by the power of God are kept,
till the salvation come;
we walk by faith as strangers here;
but Christ shall call us home.
MP 148: For all the saints
1 For all the saints who from their labours rest,
who Thee by faith before the world confessed.
Thy name, O Jess, be for ever blest.
Alleluia!
2 Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might;
Thou, Lord, their Captain in the well-fought fight;
Thou in the darkness drear their one true light
Alleluia!
3 O may Thy soldiers, faithful, true and bold,
fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,
and win, with them, the victor’s crown of gold!
Alleluia!
4 O blest communion, fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine.
Alleluia!
5 And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long,
steals on the car the distant triumph-song,
and hearts are brave again, and arms are strong.
Alleluia!
6 The golden evening brightens in the west;
soon, soon to faithful warriors cometh rest;
sweet in the calm of paradise the blest.
Alleluia!
7 But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day:
the saints triumphant rise in bright array;
the King of glory passes on His way.
Alleluia!
8 From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast,
through gates of pearl streams in the countless host,
singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
Alleluia!
