Call to Worship

Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this:
Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him;

CH4 173/MP600 Sing to God new songs

1 Sing to God new songs of worship –
all His deeds are marvellous;
He has brought salvation to us
with His Hand and holy arm;
He has shown to all the nations
righteousness and saving power;
He recalled His truth and mercy
to His people Israel.

2 Sing to God new songs of worship –
earth has seen His victory;
let the lands of earth be joyful
praising Him with thankfulness;
sound upon the harp His praises,
play to Him with melody;
let the trumpets sound His triumph,
show your joy to God the King!

3 Sing to God new songs of worship –
let the sea now make a noise;
all on earth and in the waters
sound your praises to the Lord;
let the hills be joyful together,
let the rivers clap their hands,
for the righteousness and justice
He will come to judge the earth.

Luke 6 : 27 – 38 NIV  Love for Enemies

“But to you who are listening I say:
Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?
Even sinners love those who love them.
And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.
And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you?
Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.
But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged.
Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.
Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
Give, and it will be given to you.
A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

CH4 710: I have a dream

1 ‘I have a dream’, a man once said,
‘where all is perfect peace;
where men and women, black and white,
stand hand in hand, and all unite
in freedom and in love.’

2 But in this world of bitter strife
the dream can often fade;
reality seems dark as night,
we catch but glimpses of the light
Christ sheds on humankind.

3 Fierce persecution, war and hate
are raging everywhere;
God calls us now to pay the price
through struggles and through sacrifice
of standing for the right.

4 So dream the dreams and sing the songs,
but never be content:
for thoughts and words don’t ease the pain;
unless there’s action, all is vain;
faith proves itself in deeds.

5 Lord give us vision, make us strong,
helps s to do your will;
don’t let us rest until we see
your love throughout humanity
uniting us in peace.

CH4 625/MP525 O thou who camest

1 O thou who camest from above
the pure celestial fire to impart,
kindle a flame of sacred love
on the mean altar of my heart.
2 There let it for thy glory burn
with inextinguishable blaze,
and trembling to its source return,
in humble prayer and fervent praise.
3 Jesus, confirm my heart’s desire
to work, and speak, and think for thee;
still let me guard the holy fire,
and still stir up thy gift in me:
4 Ready for all thy perfect will,
my acts of faith and love repeat,
till death thy endless mercies seal,
and make the sacrifice complete.

CH4 549/MP 988 How deep the Father’s love

1 How deep the Father’s love for us,
how vast beyond all measure,
that He should give His only Son
to make a wretch His treasure,
How great the pain of searing loss –
the Father turns His face away,
as wounds which mar the chosen one
bring many sons to glory.
2 Behold the man upon a cross,
my sin upon His shoulders;
ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there
until it was accomplished;
His dying breath has brought my life –
I know that it is finished.
3 I will not boast in anything,
no gifts, no power, no wisdom;
but I will boast in Jesus Christ,
His death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer,
but this I know with all my heart,
His wounds have pain my ransom.
