Call to Worship
As we enter Advent
We Turn our eyes to look to the Christ child
As we enter Advent
We turn our thoughts to Christ among us
As we enter Advent
Light shines in darkness and hope is born

MP 279 Make way

1 Make way, make way, for Christ the King
in splendour arrives:
fling wide the gates
and welcome Him into your lives.
Chorus: Make way, make way,
for the King of kings;
make way, make way,
and let His kingdom in!

2 He comes the broken hearts to heal,
the prisoner to free,
the deaf shall hear,
the lame shall dance,
and blind shall see.

3 And those who mourn with heavy heart
who weep and sigh,
with laughter, joy, and royal crown
He’ll beautify.

4 We call you now to worship Him,
as Lord of all,
to have no gods before Him,
their thrones must fail!

MP 809 : Blessed be the name of the Lord

1 Blessed be the name of the Lord,
Blessed be the name of the Lord,
Blessed be the name of the Lord most high.
Blessed be the name of the Lord,
Blessed be the name of the Lord,
Blessed be the name of the Lord most high.
Chorus: The name of Lord is a strong tower –
the righteous run into it,
and they are saved;
The name of Lord is a strong tower –
the righteous run into it,
and they are saved.

2 Glory to the name of the Lord,
Glory to the name of the Lord,
Glory to the name of the Lord most high!
Glory to the name of the Lord,
Glory to the name of the Lord,
Glory to the name of the Lord most high!

3 Holy is the name of the Lord,
Holy is the name of the Lord,
Holy is the name of the Lord  most high.
Holy is the name of the Lord,
Holy is the name of the Lord,
Holy is the name of the Lord  most high.

Jeremiah 33:14-16 New International Version
“‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfil the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah.
“‘In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line;
he will do what is just and right in the land.
In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. This is the name by which it will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Saviour.’

Luke 21:25-33 New International Version
“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.  People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.
At that time, they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
He told them this parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees. When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.
“Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

CH4 543 : Longing for light

1 Longing for light, we wait in darkness.
Longing for truth, we turn to you.
Make us your own, your holy people,
light for the world to see.
Chorus: Christ be our light!
Shine in our hearts.
Shine through the darkness.
Christ, be our light!
Shine in our Church gathered today.

2 Longing for peace, our world is troubled.
Longing for hope, many despair.
Your world alone has power to save us.
Make us your living voice.

3 Longing for food, many are hungry.
Longing for water, many still thirst.
Make us your bread, broken for others,
shared until all are fed.

4 Longing for shelter, many are homeless.
Longing for warmth, many are cold.
Make us your building, sheltering others,
wall made of living stone.

5 Many the gifts, many the people,
many the hearts that yearn to belong.
Let us be servants of one another,
making your kingdom come.

MP 631 : Tell out my soul

1 Tell out my soul, the greatness of the Lord!
Unnumbered blessings give my spirit voice;
render to me the promise of His word:
in God my Saviour shall my heart rejoice.

2 Tell out my soul, the greatness of His name!
Make known his might, the deeds his arm has done;
His mercy sure, from age to age the same:
His holy name, the Lord, the Mighty One.

3 Tell out my soul, the greatness of  His might!
Powers and dominions lay their glories by.
Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight,
the hungry fed, the humble lifted high.

4 Tell out my soul, the glories of His word!
Firm in His promise, and His mercy sure.
Tell out my soul, the greatness of the Lord
to children’s children and for evermore.
