CH4  530    One more step along the world I go

1 One more step along the world I go;
one more step along the world I go;
from the old things to the new
keep me travelling along with You:
Chorus: And it’s from the old I travel to the new;
keep me travelling along with You.

2 Round the corners of the world I turn,
more and more about the world I learn;
all the new things that I see
You’ll be looking at along with me:

3 As I travel through the bad and good,
keep me travelling the way I should;
where I see no way to go
You’ll be telling me the way, I know:

4 Give me courage when the world is rough,
keep me loving though the world is tough;
leap and sing in all I do,
keep me travelling along with You:

5 You are older than the world can be,
You are younger than the life in me;
ever old and ever new,
keep me travelling along with you:

MP162  From heaven you came helpless babe

1 From heaven You came, helpless babe,
entered our world, Your glory veiled,
not to be served but to serve,
and give Your life the we might live,
Chorus: This is our God, the Servant King,
He calls us now to follow Him,
to bring our lives as a daily offering
of Worship to the Servant King.

2 There is a garden of tears
my heavy load He chose to bear;
His heart with sorrow was torn,
‘Yet not my will but Yours’ He said.

3 Come see His hands and His feet,
the scars that speak of sacrifice,
hands that flung stars into space
to cruel nails surrendered.

4 So let us learn to serve
and in our lives enthrone Him,
each other’s needs to prefer,
for it is Christ we’re serving.

Jeremiah 1: 4-10  [NIV]

The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
“Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”
But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.
Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth.  See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”

John 15: 11-17    [NIV]

Jesus continued, ‘I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.  My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other.

CH4  510  Jesus calls us here to meet him

1 Jesus calls us here to meet Him
as, through word and song and prayer,
we affirm God’s promised presence
where his people live and care.
Praise the God who keeps his promise,
praise the Son who calls us friends:
praise the Spirit who, among us,
to our hopes and fears attends.

2 Jesus calls us to confess him
Word of live and Lord of all,
sharer of our flesh and frailness,
saving all who fail or fall.
Tell his holy human story;
tell his tales that all may here;
tell the World that Christ in glory
came to earth to meet us here,

3 Jesus calls us to each other,
vastly different though we are;
creed and colour, class and gender
neither limit nor debar.
Join the hand of friend and stranger;
join the hands of age and youth;
join the faithful and the doubter
in their common search for truth.

4 Jesus calls us to his table
rooted firm in time and space,
where the Church in earth  and heaven
finds a common meeting place.
Share the bread and wine, his body;
share the love of which we sing;
share the feast for saints and sinners
hosted by our Lord and King.

MP857     I, the Lord of sea and sky

1 I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin
My hand will save.
I who mad the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them?
Whom shall I send?
Chorus: Here I an, Lord.
Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go, Lord,
if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

2 I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne My people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them.
They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
give the hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them.
Whom shall I send?

3 I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them.
My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide
till their hearts are satisfied.
I will give My life to them.
Whom shall I send?

MP501       O Jesus I have promised

1 O Jesus, I have promised
to serve Thee to the end;
be Thou for ever near me,
my Master and my friend.
I shall not fear the battle
if Thou art by my side,
nor wander from the pathway
if Thou wilt be my guide.

2 O let me feel Thee near me;
the world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,
the tempting sounds I hear
my foe are ever near me,
around me and within;
but, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
and shield my soul from sin.

3 O let me hear Thee speaking
in accents clear and still,
above the storms of passion,
the murmurs of self-will;
O speak to reassure me,
to hasten or control;
O speak, and make me listen,
Thou guardian of my soul.

4 O Jesus, Thou has promised,
to all who follow Thee,
that where Thou art in glory,
there shall Thy servant be:
and, Jesus, I have promised
to serve Thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow
my Master and my friend.

5 O let me see Thy footmarks,
and in them plant my own;
my hope to follow duly,
is in Thy grace alone;
O guide me, call me, draw me,
uphold me to the end;
and then in heaven receive me,
my Saviour and my friend!
