Call to Worship

Leader:  On this new day, you call us:
All:  Speak, Lord, for we are here.
Leader:  Young, old, or in-between, you call us:
All:  Speak, Lord, for we are here.
Leader:  Working, retired, at school, or at home, you call us:
All:  Speak, Lord, for we are here.
Leader:  Carefree, or full of care, you call us:
All:  Speak, Lord, for we are here.
Leader:  In all our diversity, and in our unity, you call us:
All:  Speak, Lord, for we are here.
Leader:  On this new day, gathered as God’s people:  come, let us listen, for God is still speaking;
All: come, let us worship God!

MP 1350 : Speak O Lord

1 Speak, O Lord, as we come to You
to receive the food of Your holy word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
shape and fashion us in Your likeness
that the light of Christ might be seen today
in our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfil in us
all Your purposes, for Your glory.

2 Teach us, Lord, full obedience,
holy reverence, true humility.
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
in the radiance of Your purity.
Cause our faith to rise, cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority,
Words of power that can never fail;
let their truth prevail over unbelief.

3 Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;
help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us.
Truth unchanged from the dawn of time
that will echo down through eternity,
And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises,
and by faith we’ll walk as You walk with us.
Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built
and the earth is filled with Your glory.

Exodus 13 : 17 – 22 NIV
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter.
For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”
So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle.
Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the Israelites swear an oath. He had said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place.”
After leaving Sukkoth they camped at Etham on the edge of the desert. By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.

Acts 9 : 1 – 6 Saul’s Conversion NIV
Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest  and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.  As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied.  “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

CH4 533: Will you come and follow me

1 Will you come and follow me
if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know
and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown,
will you let my name be known,
will you let my life be grown
in you and you in me?

2 Will you leave yourself behind
if I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind
and never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare
should your life attract or scare?
Will you le me answer prayer
in you and you in me?

3 Will you let the blinded see
if I but call your name?
Will you set the prisoners free
and never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean,
and do such as this unseen,
and admit to what I mean
in you and you in me?

4 Will you love the ‘you’ you hide
if I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside
and never be the same?
Will you use the faith you’ve found
to reshape the world around.
through my sight and touch and sound
in you and you in me?

CH4 659: Put peace into each other’s hands

1 Put peace into each other’s hands
and like a treasure hold it;
protect it like a candle flame,
with tenderness enfold it.

2 Put peace into each other’s hands
with loving expectation;
be gentle in your words and ways,
in touch with God’s creation

3 Put peace into each other’s hands
like bread we break for sharing[
look people warmly in the eye;
our life is meant for caring.

4 And at communion, shape your hand
into a waiting cradle:
the gift of Christ, receive, revere,
united round the table.

5 Put Christ into each other’s hands,
he is love’s deepest measure;
in love make peace, give peace a chance
and share it live a treasure.

Hymn MP 784 : Ye servants of God

1 Ye servants of God,
your Master proclaim,
and publish abroad
His wonderful name;
the name all-victorious
of Jesus extol;
His kingdom is glorious,
and rules over all.

2 God ruleth on high,
almighty to save;
and still He is nigh,
His presence we have;
the great congregation
His triumph shall sing,
ascribing salvation
to Jesus our King.

3 ‘Salvation to God
who sits on the throne’,
let all cry aloud,
and honour the Son;
the praises of Jesus
the angels proclaim,
fall down on their faces,
and worship the Lamb.

4 Then let us adore,
and give Him His right –
all glory and power,
all wisdom and might;
all honour and blessing,
with angels above;
and thanks never-ceasing,
and infinite love.
