Call to Worship
I will praise the Lord all my life
I will sing praise to God as long as I live
Do not put your trust in princes
In human beings who cannot save
Blessed are those whose help in in God
Whose hope is in the Lord their God

CH4 129/MP656: The Lord is King
1 The Lord is King! lift up your voice!
Let earth and all heaven rejoice.
From world to world the joy shall ring,
‘The Lord  omnipotent is King!’

2 The Lord is King! who then shall dare
resist his will, distrust his care,
or murmur at the wise decrees,
or doubt his royal promises?

3 The Lord is King! child of the dust,
the judge of all the earth is just;
holy and true are all his ways;
let every creature speak his praise.

4 Come, make your wants, your burdens known;
Christ will present them at the throne;
for he is at the Father’s side,
the Man of Love, the Crucified.

5 One Lord, one empire, all secure;
he reigns, and life and death are yours;
through earth and heaven one song shall ring,
‘The Lord omnipotent is King!’

CH4 268/MP709: O God of Bethel

1 O God of Bethel! by whose hand
thy people still are fed,
who through this earthly pilgrimage
hast all our fathers led:

2 Our vows, our prayers, we now present
before thy throne of grace;
God if our fathers! be the God
of their succeeding race.

3 Through each perplexing path of life
our wandering footsteps guide;
give us each day our daily bread,
and raiment fit provide.

4 O spread thy covering wings wings around,
till all wanderings cease,
and at out Father’s loved abode
our souls arrive in peace.

5 Such blessings from thy gracious hand
our humble prayers implore;
and thou shalt be our chosen God,
and portion evermore.

2 Samuel 5: 1-5, 9-10
All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said,
“We are your own flesh and blood. In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the Lord said to you,
‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.’”
When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel.
David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years.
In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years.
David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces inward. And he became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him.

Mark 6 : 1- 13
Jesus left there and went to his home town, accompanied by his disciples.  When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.
‘Where did this man get these things?’ they asked.
‘What’s this wisdom that has been given him?
What are these remarkable miracles he is performing?
Isn’t this the carpenter?
Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?’
And they took offence at him.
Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honour except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.’ He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few people who were ill and heal them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village. Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits.
These were his instructions:
‘Take nothing for the journey except a staff – no bread, no bag, no money in your belts.
Wear sandals but not an extra shirt.
Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.’
They went out and preached that people should repent. They drove out many demons and anointed with oil many people who were ill and healed them.

CH4 356/MP 465 Meekness and Majesty

1 Meekness and majesty, manhood and deity;
in perfect harmony – the man who is God;
Lord of eternity, dwells in humanity,
kneels in humility and washes our feet.
Chorus: Oh what a mystery – meekness and majesty;
bow down and worship, for this is your God,
this is your God!

2 Father’s pure radiance, perfect in innocence,
yet learns obedience to death on a cross;
suffering to give us life, conquering through sacrifice,
and, as they crucify, prays, ‘Father forgive’.

3 Wisdom unsearchable, God the invisible,
love indestructible in frailty appears;
Lord of infinity, stooping so tenderly,
lifts our humanity to the heights of his throne.

CH4 738/MP 173: Glorious things

1 Glorious things of thee are spoken,
Zion, city of our God;
he whose word cannot be broken
formed thee for his own abode.
On the Rock of Ages founded,
what can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation’s walls surrounded,
thou mayest smile at all thy foes.

2 See! the streams of living water,
springing from eternal love,
well supply thy sons and daughters,
Who can faint while such a river
ever will their thirst assuage –
grace which, like the Lord the Giver,
never fails from age to age?

3 Saviour. since of Zion’s city
I,  through grace, a member am,
let the world deride or pity,
I will glory in thy Name.
Fading is the worldling’s pleasure,
and all boasted pomp and show:
solid joys and lasting treasure
none but Zion’s children know.
