Call to Worship

God our strong hope
We bring you our weariness

God the light of our way
We bring you our lostness

God bearer of our sins
We bring you our brokenness

God Father of us all
We bring you our worship

Hymn CH4 5: O Lord our Lord throughout the earth (Psalm 8)

1 O Lord, our Lord, throughout the earth
how glorious is your name,
and glorious too where unseen heavens
your majesty proclaim
On infant lips, in children’s song
a strong defense you raise
to counter enemy and threat,
and foil the rebel’s ways

2 When I look up and see the stars,
which your own fingers made,
and wonder at the moon and stars,
each perfectly displayed;
then I must ask, ‘Why do you care?
Why love humanity?
And why keep every mortal name
fixed in your memory?’

3 Yet such as us you made and menat
just less than gods to be;
with honour and with glory, Lord,
you crowned humanity.
And then dominion you bestowed
for all made by your hand,
all sheep and cattle, birds and fish
that move through sea or land.

Matthew 22:34-40 (NIV)
The greatest commandment

Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.
One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’
Jesus replied:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is like it:
“Love your neighbour as yourself.”
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’

Hymn MP 619: Such love

1 Such love, pure as the whitest snow;
such love weeps for the shame I know;
such love, paying the debt I owe;
O Jesus, such love.

2 Such love, stilling my restlessness;
such love, filling my emptiness;
such love, showing my holiness;
O Jesus, such love.

3 Such love, springs from eternity;
such love, streaming through history;
such love, showing me holiness;
O Jesus, such love.

Hymn CH4 462 MP 649: The king of love

1 The King of Love my Shepherd is,
whose goodness faileth never;
I nothing lack if I am his
and he is mine forever.

2 Where streams of living water flow
my ransomed soul he leadeth,
and where the verdant pastures grow
with food celestial feedeth.

3. Perverse and foolish oft I strayed;
but yet in love he sought me,
and on his shoulder gently laid,
and how rejoicing brought me.

4 In death’s dark vale I fear no ill,
with thee, dear Lord, beside me;
thy rod and staff my comfort still,
they cross before to guide me.

5 Thou spread’st a table in my sight;
thy unction grace bestoweth;
and oh, what wonder and delight
from they pure chalice floweth!

6 And so through all the length of days
thy goodness faileth never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing they praise
within thy house forever!
