Call to Worship
God unfailing, God indestructible
Giver of blessings, comfort for our fears, source of our joy;
we turn our hearts to you and you meet us
with grace upon grace.
You are our treasure, and in you,
our restless hearts find their home.
We, your little flock, worship you.
CH4 352/MP 496 : O for a thousand tongues
Luke 12:32-40. New International Version – UK
‘Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.
Sell your possessions and give to the poor.
Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
‘Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him.
It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes.
Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will make them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.
It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or towards daybreak.
But understand this: if the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.
You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.’
MP 167 : Give me oil in my lamp
CH4 501: Take this moment time and space
1 Take this moment, sign and space;
rake my friends around;
here among is make the place
where your love is found.
2 Take the time to call my name,
take the time to mend
who I am and what I’ve been,
all I’ve failed to tend.
3 Take the tiredness of my days,
take my past regret,
letting your forgiveness touch
all I can’t forget.
4 Take the little child in me,
scared of growing old;
help me to find my worth
made in Christ’s own mould.
5 Take my talents; and my skills,
take what’s yet to be;
let my life be yours and yet,
let it still be me.
CH4 473 : Thy Kingdom come on bended knee
1 ‘Thy Kingdom come!’- on bended knee
the passing ages pray ;
and faithful souls have yearned to see
on earth that kingdom’s day.
2 But the slow watches of the night
not less to God belong;
and for the everlasting right
the silent stars are strong.
3 And lo, already on the hills
the flags of dawn appear;
gird up your loins, ye prophet souls,
proclaim the day is near.
4 The day in whose clear-shining light
all wrong shall stand revealed,
when justice shall be throned with might
and every hurt be healed.
5 When knowledge, hand in hand with peace,
shall walk the earth abroad,
the day of perfect righteousness,
the promised day of God.
