Call to Worship
The Lord looks down from heaven
And sees the whole human race
The Lord watches over those who obey him
Those who trust in his constant love
We put our hope in the Lord
He is our protector and our help
We are glad because of him
We trust in his Holy name.

MP 50: Be still for the presence

1 Be still, for the presence of the Lord,
The Holy One is here;
Come bow before him now with reverence and fear:
In him no sin is found –
We stand on holy ground.
Be still, for the presence of the Lord,
The Holy One, is here

2 Be still, for the glory of the Lord
is shining all around;
He burns with holy fire,
with splendour he is crowned:
how awesome is the sight
our radiant King of light
Be still, for the glory of the Lord
is shining all around.
3 Be still, for the power of the Lord
is moving in this place;
He comes to cleanse and heal,
to minister his grace –
no work too hard for him.
In faith receive from him.
Be still, for the power of the Lord
is moving in this place.

MP 809 : Blessed be the name of the Lord
1 Blessed be the name of the Lord,
blessed be the name of the Lord,
blessed be the name of the Lord,
blessed be the name of the Lord, most high!
Blessed be the name of the Lord,
blessed be the name of the Lord,
blessed be the name of the Lord,
blessed be the name of the Lord, most high!
Chorus: The name of the Lord is a strong tower –
the righteous run into it,
and they are saved;
The name of the Lord is a strong tower –
the righteous run into it,
and they are saved.

2 Glory to the name of the Lord,
glory to the name of the Lord,
glory to the name of the Lord, most high!
Glory to the name of the Lord,
glory to the name of the Lord,
glory to the name of the Lord, most high!

3 Holy is the name of the Lord,
holy to the name of the Lord,
holy to the name of the Lord, most high!
Holy is the name of the Lord,
holy to the name of the Lord,
holy to the name of the Lord, most high!

Reading     Isaiah 42 : 1 – 9 NIV
“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his teaching the islands will put their hope.”
This is what God the Lord says — the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out,
who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people,
and life to those who walk on it:  “I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness;
I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.
“I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.
See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.”

Matthew 3 : 13 – 17 New International Version – UK
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptised by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, ‘I need to be baptised by you, and do you come to me?’
Jesus replied, ‘Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfil all righteousness.’’
Then John consented.
As soon as Jesus was baptised, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.
And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’

MP37: As the deer

1 As the deer pants for the water,
so my soul longs after You.
You alone are my heart’s desire
and I long to worship You.
Chorus: You alone are my strength , my shield,
to You alone may my spirit yield,
You alone are my heart’s desire
and I long to worship You.

2 I want You more than gold or silver,
only You can satisfy.
You alone are the real joy-giver
and the apple of my eye.

3 You’re my friend and You’re my brother,
even though You are a king.
I love You more than any other,
so much more than anything.

CH4 336: Christ is our light

1 Christ is our light! the bright and morning star,
covering with radiance all from near and far.
Christ be our light, Shine on, shine on we pray
into our hearts , into our world today.

2 Christ is our love! baptized that we may know
the love of God among us, swooping low.
Christ be our love, bring us o turn our face
and see in you the light of heaven’s embrace.

3 Christ is our joy! transforming wedding guest!
Through water turned to wine the feast was blessed.
Christ be our joy, your glory let us see,
as your disciples did in Galilee.
