\nWhy are they selling poppies, Mummy?
\nSelling poppies in town today.
\nThe poppies, child, are flowers of love.
\nFor the men who marched away.
\nBut why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy?
\nWhy not a beautiful rose?
\nBecause my child, men fought and died in the fields where the poppies grow.
\nBut why are the poppies so red, Mummy?

\nRed is the colour of blood, my child.
\nThe blood that our soldiers shed.
\nThe heart of the poppy is black, Mummy.

\n<\/strong>Some of the disciples were talking about the Temple, how beautiful it looked with its fine stones and the gifts offered to God. Jesus said,
\nAll this you see\u2014the time will come when not a single stone here will be left in its place; everyone will be thrown down.\u201d
\nTroubles and Persecutions
\n<\/strong>\u201cTeacher,\u201d they asked, \u201cwhen will this be? And what will happen in order to show that the time has come for it to take place?\u201d
\nJesus said, \u201cWatch out; don’t be fooled. Many men, claiming to speak for me, will come and say, \u2018I am he!\u2019 and, \u2018The time has come!\u2019 But don’t follow them.
\nDon’t be afraid when you hear of wars and revolutions; such things must happen first, but they do not mean that the end is near.
\nHe went on to say, \u201cCountries will fight each other; kingdoms will attack one another.
\nThere will be terrible earthquakes, famines, and plagues everywhere; there will be strange and terrifying things coming from the sky.
\nBefore all these things take place, however, you will be arrested and persecuted; you will be handed over to be tried in synagogues and be put in prison; you will be brought before kings and rulers for my sake.
\nThis will be your chance to tell the Good News.
\n\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Make up your minds ahead of time not to worry about how you will defend yourselves,
\nbecause I will give you such words and wisdom that none of your enemies will be able to refute or contradict what you say.
\nYou will be handed over by your parents, your brothers, your relatives, and your friends; and some of you will be put to death.
\nEveryone will hate you because of me.
\nBut not a single hair from your heads will be lost.
\nStand firm, and you will save yourselves.<\/p>\n
