Our God

The cost of being a disciple<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Large crowds were travelling with Jesus, and turning to them he said:
\n\u2018If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters\u00a0\u2013 yes, even their own life\u00a0\u2013 such a person cannot be my disciple.\u00a0And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
\n\u2018Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won\u2019t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?
\nFor if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you,\u00a0saying,
\n\u201cThis person began to build and wasn\u2019t able to finish.\u201d
\n\u2018Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won\u2019t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand?
\nIf he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.
\nIn the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.
\n\u2018Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?<\/p>\n

CH4 509\/MP 359: Jesus calls us<\/p>\n

1 Jesus calls us; o’er the tumult
\nof our life’s wild reckless sea,
\nday by day His voice is sounding,
\nsaying, ‘Christian, follow me.’<\/p>\n

2 As of old, apostles heard it
\nby the Galilean lake,
\nturned from home, and toil, and kindred,
\nleaving all for His dear sake.<\/p>\n

3 Jesus calls us from the worship,
\nof the vain world’s golden store,
\nfrom each idol that would keep us,
\nsaying, ‘Christian, love Me more’<\/p>\n

4 In our joys and in our sorrows,
\ndays of toil and hours of ease,
\nstill He calls, in cares and pleasures,
\n‘Christian, love Me more than these’<\/p>\n

5 Jesus call us! By Thy mercies,
\nSaviour, mat we hear Thy call,
