\n<\/strong>Samaritan opposition
\n<\/strong>As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.\u00a0And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him;\u00a0but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem.\u00a0When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, \u2018Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them
\nBut Jesus turned and rebuked them.\u00a0Then he and his disciples went to another village.
\nAs they were walking along the road, a man said to him, \u2018I will follow you wherever you go.\u2019
\nJesus replied,\u00a0\u2018Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.\u2019
\nHe said to another man,\u00a0\u2018Follow me.\u2019
\nBut he replied, \u2018Lord, first let me go and bury my father.\u2019
\nJesus said to him,\u00a0\u2018Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.\u2019
\nStill another said, \u2018I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.\u2019
\nJesus replied,\u00a0\u2018No one who puts a hand to the plough and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.\u2019<\/p>\n
