On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues,\u00a0and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years.
\nShe was bent over and could not straighten up at all.
\nWhen Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her,
\n\u201cWoman, you are set free from your infirmity.\u201d
\nThen he put his hands on her,\u00a0and immediately she straightened up and praised God.
\nIndignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath,\u00a0the synagogue leader\u00a0said to the people,
\n\u201cThere are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.\u201d
\nThe Lord answered him,\u00a0\u201cYou hypocrites! Doesn\u2019t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water?
\nThen should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham,\u00a0whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?\u201d
\nWhen he said this, all his opponents were humiliated,\u00a0but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.<\/p>\n
