\nwas to Bethlehem’s shepherds in fields as they lay;

\nThe Birth of Jesus
\n<\/strong>In those days Caesar Augustus\u00a0issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.\u00a0(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)\u00a0And everyone went to their own town to register.
\nSo Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem\u00a0the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
\nHe went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him\u00a0and was expecting a child.
\nWhile they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
\nAnd there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.\u00a0An angel\u00a0of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them,
\n\u201cDo not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. \u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Today in the town of David a Saviour\u00a0has been born to you; he is the Messiah,\u00a0the Lord.\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>This will be a sign\u00a0to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n
\nearth lay sleeping, sleeping calm and still;
\nthen in a cattle shed, in a manger bed,
\na boy was born, King of all the world.

\npromised from eternal years.
