This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship,<strong><sup>\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet.\u00a0<strong><sup>\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>The Spirit told Philip, \u2018Go to that chariot and stay near it.\u2019<br \/>\nThen Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. \u2018Do you understand what you are reading?\u2019 Philip asked.<br \/>\n\u2018How can I,\u2019 he said, \u2018unless someone explains it to me?\u2019 So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.<br \/>\nThis is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:<br \/>\n\u2018He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,<br \/>\nand as a lamb before its shearer is silent,<br \/>\nso he did not open his mouth.<br \/>\nIn his humiliation he was deprived of justice.<br \/>\nWho can speak of his descendants?<br \/>\nFor his life was taken from the earth.\u2019<br \/>\nThe eunuch asked Philip, \u2018Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?\u2019\u00a0<strong><sup>\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.<br \/>\nAs they travelled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, \u2018Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptised?\u2019\u00a0<strong><sup>\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And he gave orders to stop the chariot.
