We who are empty
\n<\/strong>come to be filled with your love

Bible Reading – John 20 : 19 – 29
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said,
\n\u2018Peace be with you!\u2019
\nAfter he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
\nAgain, Jesus said,
\n\u2018Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.\u2019
\nAnd with that he breathed on them and said,\u00a0\u2018Receive the Holy Spirit.\u00a0If you forgive anyone\u2019s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.\u2019<\/p>\n

Jesus appears to Thomas
\n<\/strong>Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.\u00a0So the other disciples told him, \u2018We have seen the Lord!\u2019
\nBut he said to them,
\n\u2018Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.\u2019
\nA week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said,
\n\u2018Peace be with you!\u2019
\nThen he said to Thomas,
\n\u2018Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.\u2019
\nThomas said to him, \u2018My Lord and my God!\u2019
\nThen Jesus told him,
\n\u2018Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.\u2019<\/p>\n

CH4 432 How often we like Thomas<\/strong><\/p>\n

1 How often we, like Thomas,
\nneed proof before we trust.
\nLord Jesus, friend of doubters,
\ncome, speak your truth to us.
\nWe long to feel your presence,
\nand gain new faith from you,
\nto find, without your seeing,
\nthe blessing Thomas knew.<\/p>\n

2 You always stand among us,
\nno doors can lock you out.
\nYour presence reassures us
\nthough we still live with doubt.
\nAs present-day disciples,
\nwhose lives by sin are flawed,
\nwe want to come believing,
\nand cry: ‘My Lord, My God!’<\/p>\n

MP 988 How deep the Father\u2019s love<\/strong><\/p>\n

1 How deep the Father’s love for us,
\nhow vast beynond all measure,
\nthat He should give His only Son
\nto make a wretch His treasure.
\nHow great the pain in searing loss –
\nthe Father turns His face away,
\nas wounds which mar the chosen one
\nbring many sons to glory.<\/p>\n

2 Behold the man upon a cross,
\nmy sin upon His shoulders;
\nashamed, I hear my mocking voice
\ncall out among the scoffers.
\nIt was my sin that held Him there
\nHis dying breath has broughtme life –
\nI know that it is finished.<\/p>\n

3 I will not boast in anything,
\nno gifts, no power, no wisdom;
\nbut I will boast in Jesus Christ,
\nHis death and resurrection.
\nWhy should I gain from His reward?
\nI cannot give an answer,
\nbut this I know with all my heart,
