{"id":1477,"date":"2021-01-03T10:00:50","date_gmt":"2021-01-03T10:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/standrewsbaillieston.co.uk\/?page_id=1477"},"modified":"2021-01-02T14:50:13","modified_gmt":"2021-01-02T14:50:13","slug":"order-of-service-3-january-2021","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/standrewsbaillieston.co.uk\/?page_id=1477","title":{"rendered":"Order of Service &#8211; 3 January 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Magi Visit the Messiah<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(words for hymns can be found below the order of service)<\/p>\n<p>Welcome<br \/>\nCH4 234 : Tis winter now the fallen snow<br \/>\nReading Matthew 2 : 1 -12<br \/>\nPrayer &amp; Lord\u2019s prayer<br \/>\nMP 39 : As with gladness<br \/>\nPowerpoint<br \/>\nReflection<br \/>\nCH4 325 : Bethlehem a noble city<br \/>\nPrayer for others<br \/>\nCH4 237 : Look forward in faith<br \/>\nBlessing<\/p>\n<p><strong>Call to Worship<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of 2021,<br \/>\nMAY THE GOD OF HOPE BE WITH US.<\/p>\n<p>In our lamenting the losses of 2020,<br \/>\nMAY THE GOD OF PEACE BE WITH US.<\/p>\n<p>In our celebrations of Christmas,<br \/>\nMAY THE GOD OF JOY BE WITH US.<\/p>\n<p>In our caring for the world,<br \/>\nMAY THE GOD OF LOVE BE WITH US.<\/p>\n<p>In our living of life in all its fullness,<br \/>\nMAY WE KNOW THAT GOD IS WITH US.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CH4 234 : Tis winter now the fallen snow<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 &#8216;Tis winter now; the fallen snow<br \/>\nhas left the heavens all coldly clear;<br \/>\nthrough leafless boughs the sharp winds blow;<br \/>\nand all the earth lies dead and drear.<\/p>\n<p>2 And yet God&#8217;s love is not withdrawn;<br \/>\nhis life within the keen air breathes;<br \/>\nhis beauty paints the crimson dawn,<br \/>\nand clothes each branch with glittering wreaths.<\/p>\n<p>3 And though abroad the sharp winds blow;<br \/>\nand skies are chill, and frosts are keen,<br \/>\nhome closer draws her circle now,<br \/>\nand warmer glows her light within.<\/p>\n<p>4 O God, you give the winter&#8217;s cold,<br \/>\nas well as summer&#8217;s joyous rays,<br \/>\nyou warmly in your love enfold<br \/>\nand keep us through life&#8217;s wintry days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew 2:1-12<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, \u201cWhere is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.<sup>\u00a0<\/sup>When he had called together all the people\u2019s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born.<sup>\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cIn Bethlehem in Judea,\u201d they replied, \u201cfor this is what the prophet has written:<\/p>\n<p>\u2018But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,<br \/>\nare by no means least among the rulers of Judah;<br \/>\nfor out of you will come a ruler<br \/>\nwho will shepherd my people Israel.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, \u201cGo and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MP 39 : As with gladness<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 As with gladness men of old<br \/>\ndid the guiding star behold;<br \/>\nas with joy they hailed its light,<br \/>\nso, most gracious God, may we<br \/>\nled by You for ever be.<\/p>\n<p>2 As with joyful steps they sped,<br \/>\nSaviour, to Your lowly bed,<br \/>\nthere to bend the knee before<br \/>\nYou whom heaven and earth adore,<br \/>\nso may we with one accord,<br \/>\nseek forgiveness from our Lord.<\/p>\n<p>3 As they offered gifts more rare,<br \/>\ngold and frankincense and myrrh,<br \/>\nso may we, cleansed from our sin,<br \/>\nlives of service now begin,<br \/>\nas in love our treasures bring,<br \/>\nChrist, to You our heavenly King.<\/p>\n<p>4 Holy Jesus, every day<br \/>\nkeep us in the narrow way;<br \/>\nand when earthly things are past,<br \/>\nbring our ransomed souls at last<br \/>\nwhere they need no star to guide,<br \/>\nwhere no clouds Your glory hide.<\/p>\n<p>5 In the heavenly country bright<br \/>\nneed they no created light;<br \/>\nYou its light, its joy, its crown,<br \/>\nThere for ever may we sing<br \/>\nhallelujahs to our King.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CH4 325 : Bethlehem, a noble city<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 Bethlehem , a noble city,<br \/>\nhas been blessed beyond compare,<br \/>\nfor the gracious God of heaven<br \/>\nonce became incarnate there.<\/p>\n<p>2 Fairer than the sun at morning<br \/>\nwas the star that told his birth,<br \/>\nto the world its God announcing,<br \/>\nseen in human form on earth.<\/p>\n<p>3 From the east came menof wisdom<br \/>\nbringing treasures prized of old,<br \/>\ntributes to a greater wisdom,<br \/>\ngifts of incense, myrrh, and gold.<\/p>\n<p>4 Sacred gifts of mystic meaning:<br \/>\nincense shows that God has come,<br \/>\ngold proclaims him king of nations,<br \/>\nmyrrh foretells his saving tomb.<\/p>\n<p>5 Holy Jesus, in your brightness<br \/>\nto the Gentile world displayed,<br \/>\nwith the Father and the Spirit<br \/>\nendless praise to you be paid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CH4 237 : Look forward in faith<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 Look forward in faith,<br \/>\nall time is in God&#8217;s hand.<br \/>\nWalk humbly with him<br \/>\nand trust his future plan.<br \/>\nGod has wisely led<br \/>\nhis people by his power.<br \/>\nLook forward in hope,<br \/>\nhe gives u seach new hour.<\/p>\n<p>2 Look forward in faith,<br \/>\nthe world is in God&#8217;s care.<br \/>\nHis purpose of love<br \/>\nhe calls on us to share.<br \/>\nIn our neighbour&#8217;s need<br \/>\nthe Lord is present still.<br \/>\nHe blesses the meek!<br \/>\nThe earth will know God&#8217;s will.<\/p>\n<p>3 Look forward in faith,<br \/>\nGod gives us life each day.<br \/>\nGo onward with Christ,<br \/>\nhis Spirit guides our way.<br \/>\nNow God lets us live<br \/>\nwith the sphere of grace.<br \/>\nTrust ever in him,<br \/>\nhe rules o&#8217;er earth and space!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blessing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We stand to face the future<\/p>\n<p>Christ behind us in the past<br \/>\nChrist before us, the way ahead<br \/>\nChrist beside us in this moment<br \/>\nChrist beneath us in our weakness<br \/>\nChrist above us to shield us<br \/>\nThus armed, guided and protected we face the new year<\/p>\n<p>Now we arise and go forth on the journey before us<br \/>\nknowing that, where Christ leads, life is a journey home<br \/>\nTherefore we travel in faith, in hope, and in love.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Magi Visit the Messiah (words for hymns can be found below the order of service) Welcome CH4 234 : Tis winter now the fallen snow Reading Matthew 2 : 1 -12 Prayer &amp;
