Call to Worship<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dare we reimagine the world.
\nDare we speak of hope in the silence.
\nDare we pour colour into the shadows.
\nDare we gather in such promise,
\non the cusp of Incarnation.
\nLet us worship the one who brings us here
\nand whose word is the poetry of hope<\/p>\n

MP 162 : From heaven you came<\/strong><\/p>\n

1 From heaven you came, helpless babe,
\nentered our world, Your glory vieled,
\nnot to be served but to serve,
\nand give Your life that we might live.<\/p>\n

The birth of Jesus foretold<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>In the sixth month of Elizabeth\u2019s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,\u00a0to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin\u2019s name was Mary.\u00a0The angel went to her and said, \u2018Greetings, you who are highly favoured! The Lord is with you.\u2019<\/p>\n

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.\u00a0But the angel said to her, \u2018Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favour with God.\u00a0You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.\u00a0He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,\u00a0and he will reign over Jacob\u2019s descendants for ever; his kingdom will never end.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>\u2018How will this be,\u2019 Mary asked the angel, \u2018since I am a virgin?\u2019<\/p>\n

The angel answered, \u2018The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called\u00a0the Son of God.\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month.\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For no word from God will ever fail.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018I am the Lord\u2019s servant,\u2019 Mary answered. \u2018May your word to me be fulfilled.\u2019 Then the angel left her.<\/p>\n

Mary\u2019s song<\/strong><\/p>\n

46\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And Mary said:
\n\u2018My soul glorifies the Lord\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
\nfor he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.
\nFrom now on all generations will call me blessed,\u00a0for the Mighty One has done great things for me\u00a0\u2013
\nholy is his name.
\nHis mercy extends to those who fear him,
\nfrom generation to generation.\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;\u00a0he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
\nHe has brought down rulers from their thrones
\nbut has lifted up the humble.
\nHe has filled the hungry with good things
\nbut has sent the rich away empty.
\nHe has helped his servant Israel,
\nremembering to be merciful
\nto Abraham and his descendants for ever,\u00a0\u00a0just as he promised our ancestors.<\/p>\n
