Isaiah 40: 1 \u2013 11\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Comfort, comfort\u00a0my people,
\nsays your God.
\nSpeak tenderly\u00a0to Jerusalem,
\nand proclaim to her
\nthat her hard service\u00a0has been completed,
\nthat her sin has been paid for,
\nthat she has received from the\u00a0Lord\u2019s hand
\ndouble\u00a0for all her sins.<\/p>\n

A voice of one calling:
\n\u201cIn the wilderness prepare
\nthe way\u00a0for the\u00a0Lord
\nmake straight\u00a0in the desert

\nAnd I said, \u201cWhat shall I cry?\u201d
\n\u201cAll people are like grass,
\nand all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
\nThe grass withers\u00a0and the flowers fall,
\nbecause the breath\u00a0of the\u00a0Lord\u00a0blows\u00a0on them.
\nSurely the people are grass.
\nThe grass withers and the flowers\u00a0fall,
\nbut the word\u00a0of our God endures\u00a0forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/sup>You who bring good news\u00a0to Zion,
\ngo up on a high mountain.
\nYou who bring good news to Jerusalem
\nlift up your voice with a shout,
\nlift it up, do not be afraid;
\nsay to the towns of Judah,
\n\u201cHere is your God!\u201d
\nSee, the Sovereign\u00a0Lord\u00a0comes\u00a0with power,
\nand he rules\u00a0with a mighty arm.
\nSee, his reward\u00a0is with him,
\nand his recompense accompanies him.
\nHe tends his flock like a shepherd:
\nHe gathers the lambs in his arms
\nand carries them close to his heart;
\nhe gently leads\u00a0those that have young.<\/p>\n

Mark 1: 1 – 8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah,\u00a0the Son of God, as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:<\/p>\n

\u201cI will send my messenger ahead of you,
\nwho will prepare your way\u201d\u2014
\n\u201ca voice of one calling in the wilderness,
\n\u2018Prepare the way for the Lord,
\nmake straight paths for him.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/sup>And so, John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
\nThe whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him.
\nConfessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. John wore clothing made of camel\u2019s hair, with a leather belt around his waist,\u00a0and he ate locusts\u00a0and wild honey.\u00a0And this was his message: \u201cAfter me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup>I baptize you with\u00a0water, but he will baptize you with\u00a0the Holy Spirit.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

MP 381: Jesus stand among us<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

1 Jesus, stand among us at the meeting of our lives,
\nbe our sweet agreement at the meeting of our eyes;
\nO Jesus, we love You, so we gather here,
\njoin our hearts in unity and take away our fear.<\/p>\n

2 So to You we’re gathering out of each and every land,
\nChrist the love between us at the joining of our hands;

3 Jesus stand among us at the breaking of the bread;

CH4 283: The voice of God<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

1 The voice of God goes out to all the world;
\nhis glory speaks across the universe.
\nThe great King’s herald cried from star to star:
\nwith power, with justice, he will walk his way.<\/p>\n

2 THe Lord has said: ‘Receive my messenger,
\nmy promise to the world, my pledge made flesh,
\na lamp to every nation, light from light’:
\nwith power, with justice, he will walk his way.<\/p>\n

3 The broken reed he will not trample down,
\nand set his heel upon the dying flame.
\nHe binds the wounds, and heals with his strong hand:
\nwith power, with justice, he will walk his way.<\/p>\n

4 Annointed with the Spirit and with power,
\nhe comes to crown with comfort all the weak,
\nto show the face of justice to the poor:
\nwith power, with justice, he will walk his way.<\/p>\n

5 His touch will open eyes that dakness held;
\nthe lame shall run, the halting tongue shall sing,
\nand prisoners will laugh in light and liberty:
