8\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah,\u00a0the Son of God, as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will send my messenger ahead of you,<br \/>\nwho will prepare your way\u201d\u2014<br \/>\n\u201ca voice of one calling in the wilderness,<br \/>\n\u2018Prepare the way for the Lord,<br \/>\nmake straight paths for him.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><sup>\u00a0<\/sup>And so, John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.<br \/>\nThe whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him.<br \/>\nConfessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
