Matthew 23:1-12<\/strong><\/h1>\n

A warning against hypocrisy<\/h1>\n

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:
\n\u2018The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses\u2019 seat.\u00a0
\n<\/sup>So, you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practise what they preach.
\nThey tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other\u00a0people\u2019s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
\n\u2018Everything they do is done for people to see:
\nthey make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long;\u00a0they love the place of honour at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues;
\nthey love to be greeted with respect in the market-places and to be called \u201cRabbi\u201d by others.
\n\u2018But you are not to be called \u201cRabbi\u201d, for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers.
\n<\/sup><\/strong>And do not call anyone on earth \u201cfather\u201d, for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.
\nNor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah.
\nThe greatest among you will be your servant.
\nFor those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.<\/p>\n

Hymn CH4 97 : O God you search me and you know me<\/strong><\/p>\n

1 O God, you search me and you know me.
\nAll my thoughts lie open to your gaze.
\nWhen I walk or lie down you are before me;
\never the maker and keeper of my days.<\/p>\n

2 You know my resting and my rising.
\nYou discern my purpose from afar,
\nand with love everlasting you besiege me;
\nin every moment of life or death, you are.<\/p>\n

3 Before a word is on my tongue, Lord,
\nyou have known its meaning through and through.
\nYou are with me beyond my understanding:
\nGod of my present, past and future too.<\/p>\n

4 Although your Spirit is upon me,
\nstill I search for shelter from your light.

\nbathe the wounds that living brings.
\nPlunge our pain, our sin, our sadness
\ndeep beneath your sacred springs.
\nWeary from the restless searching

\nwe discover in your presence
\npeace the world cannot provde.<\/p>\n

2 Wellspring of the healing Spirit,
\nstream that flows to bring release,
\nas we gain our selves, our senses,
